The weather is going to be nice tomorrow and I’m ready to go for a hike. As I want to avoid the crowd of this month of june on the Preikistolen, I ask my landlord for advice !
Vidar, who is really fan of hiking, talks to me about Reinaknuten…he says the view is even more astonished than from the Preikistolen : It is enough to convince me ! (yes, I’m an easy going woman ;))
He gave me the instructions to find the start of the hike ! Don’t be worried if you’re going there, you’ve to drive a gravel road ! The welcome comittee were there and I left my car, sure that nothing bad could happen to it (the worst could have been a sheep on the hood, not that bad).
5,5 km – ok, not that bad. The sun is just behind the clouds, nobody around, seems just to be the perfect day ! The beginning of the track climbs smoothly in a forest. The track is totally wet, once again, I can just congratulate myself for buying these expensive hiking shoes !
The track becomes a bit harder, and the sun shows once in a while. I’m starting to get hot !
But I’m arriving on a plateau with an incredible view on the fjord…perfect timing for some photo shoots and some snacks !
After this little pause, I start to climb harder right to a summit. I’m thinking that was not that hard…but a quick look at my phone, showing that I have walked only 3 km gives me some doubts. Vidar had told me that you have to climb a first mountain and then go down and then climb the Reinaknuten…now I see what he meant…After 10 more minutes walk, 2 moutains appear, which were hidding by the one I was climbing !
Ok, at this point, I’m starting to wondering if I’m not going to go down now. It has been quite Tough for me and my bodyis not that well trained !
Ok, the mountain on the right doesn’l look very High, and well now I’m here…To give me some motivation, I stop 2 women walking on the other way and ask them which one was the Reinaknuten (in my head, I was praying, please, say the one on the right, the one on the right, the one on the right…) Of couse, they say, the one on the left !! God sake, why I’m still asking question if I don’t want to hear the answer !!!
At this moment, 2 things pop up in my head :
1 : I can do it, I have all the day, I ll be so proud of me, I can dot it
2 : If I manage to stay Alive, I’m going to kill my landlord ^^
Ok, the women were right, definitely. I have to climb the one on the right !
So let’s go for the second summit of the day. The sun is more and more present, no risk of thunderstorm, and lots of hours of daylight in front f me !
But first, let’s take a little pause close to this lake, stuck between the 2 mountains. There is a guy fishing ! I start to talk with him in English and Wonder if he has any chance to catch something, and he answered that if he doesn’t try he will not know ! This is one of my favortite quotation ! Just what I needed !
Full of motivation, I start to climb..the track is not easy, it’s going through big rocks and it is really demanding to go on!
After a looooong climb (which really seems to last forever for me ! ) I arrive on the top !!
The big column of stones can’t lie ! This is the top ! I did it !!
The view here is breath taking. I just can’t help myself watching all around, 360deg view ! Just can’t stop thinking « it’s f** beautiful ! »
I’m alone over there. Alone in the middle of this beautiful landscape, with an even more beatutiful view. In a second, all my pains disappear ! It is so Worth it to come here ! Just being amazed without paying anything ! This is the best way ! Of course, I make some pictures, to have some concrete memories. But the best one is the one I have in my head and I feel in my soul.
Few times after I arrived, a man, about 68 years old arrives on the top. We talked for a while : he told me that he used to climb it, when he had few hours in front of him !! The people in this country are so fit ! He sits 5 minutes, eats a banana and goes down again !!
I spent probably 45 min in the top, to rest and to enjoy. I was not able to stop starring at the view !
After this amazing gift, the return way seems to be easy and short !
I arrive at my car around 15h00…I had left at 7h !! Now, you can figure how not trained I am ! But also, how I like taking time, taking pictures, enjoying every single things I crossed on the way.
Back to the parking, car and sheeps are still here ! I sit on the ground to take off my shoes… probably not the best idea…wondering how I’m going to be able to stand up now…
Hopefuly, none of the sheeps has a Smartphone to film and post on social networks my pathetic way to stand up !
But I manage ! Let’s go home, take a bath and thanks Vidar for this incredible gift !
