If there is something that we use to say and to hear about Norway, it is that it’s raining a lot !
Actually, it is totally true !!!
Specially on the west cost. Bergen has several records of rainy days per year…the only thing I have witnessed is (at least) 20 consecutive days of rain in June 2017. But, please consider that I’m not talking about rain all day long. It’s raining, ok, but in between rain it’s only cloudy ^^And even sometimes the sun makes an apparition !
So ok, it’s raining a lot. But the norwegians don ’t seem to be that much bothered about that and you know why ? Because they trust in a real true sentence :
There is no bad weather, only bad clothes !
And when you consider it for a while, you will understand how true they are and how it makes you look at the weather in a totally new different way !
So, the first thing to do when you arrive in Norway, is to get equipped.
So please, let’s have a look together about all the positive things about all this rain.
1/ You need a raincoat and a rain trousers.
What’s better than my sailing equipment! Here, I can use almost every day this technic sailing coat that my dear former colleagues have offered to me when I quit my job ! I used it only 5 days while sailing across the Atlantic ocean (too warm after that!) and it was quite a shame, such a nice present. So my friends, be sure that you have given me one of the most useful present ever ! For the trouser, let’s use this over-trousers bought to sail or to ride under the rain (knowing that I haven’t ridden my motorcycle under the rain since 2012, you can imagine how new these trousers are !). If you’re not sailing, skiing equipment works as well 😉
2 / You need rain boots !
So let’s see the positive thing : for me, and most of women on this planet, buying new shoes it’s always a good news ! And if, in France and in other countries, wearing plastic boots is absolutely a shame, in Norway, it’s quite common !
And if you do love your leather shoes, you ll be sorry to see them being damaged by water. The most difficult part is to find the pair of boots which doesn’t make you look like a sailor or a farmer…and the quest was not that easy. I had hoped that because of all this rain, norwegian brands would have created some nice rain boots but it’s not the case. This is where the loooong search on internet started. I tried everything, in english, in french, even in norwegian…and honestly, if you avoid all the boots costing more than 150 euros (which is actually A LOT !), that is to say all the haute couture rain boots…I found only 2 brands : Aigle and Barbour.
Ok, to be totally honest, I will kill to find the pair of blue boots which makes the cover of the article (October 2016) of Marie Claire (french edition)…if someone has a clue, please, tell me !! I need them more than you do !!!
Back to reality : after spending time surfing on the net to find the best offer (with a delivery in Norway !), I have finally bought these ones :
Well, I tried to take several pictures but they definitely look like rain boots…The important things of these models is that you can adapt the size of your calf…Or wear big wool socks which is (also) a trend here (we will talk about that later)
If someone would have told me that one day I would buy rain boots for 103 euros and wear them to go in town, I would have never believed him. Specially when I was selling or giving all my winter clothes in September 2014 shouting that I will never need them again hahaha.
3/ You have a lot more possibilities to be kissed under a pouring rain, like in the Hollywood movies and to look beautiful in the eyes of your lover with your hair wet and the mascara flowing on your cheeks. That is something to be taken under consideration !
4/ But the most beautiful things with all the rain
is that you learn to REALLY appreciate the sun ! The sun becomes something rare so precious and when you see it behind your window, there is no more TV or internet, you go out. Wearing a Tshirt. And eating an ice cream. Like all Norwegians do. What, it’s 8 degrees ? So what !You’re the kind to be never happy !! 😉
