1st of May is also a day off in Norway, kind of labor day…but it’s also the official opening for the motorbike season : Vårslepp ! When a friend asked me if I wanted to join, I didn’t hesitate…I didn’t ride my bike for 2 years now (it’s still waiting in France!) and I’m always ready to ride ! When I asked for some explanations, he just told me that it’s a convoy between Klepp and Stavanger (about 25km). I didn’t really know what to expect and I haven’t been disappointed !
Of course, after 3 days of an amazing blue sky, it’s raining this morning of the 1st may ! I met my friend at his place and we got equipped with rain and warm clothes ! And when one of his friend arrived, we all rode together, direction Klepp.
And when we arrived there, hundreds bikes were already there, waiting. The atmosphere was cool and we enjoyed to take time to look at all the bikes present…damn it, I want to get one ! In Norway, it’s not required by a law to wear a reflective yellow vest but lots of bikers wear one…specially when the visibility is not that good (which could happen quite often in this country ^^) .
When time came, all the bikes started the convoy and I have been absolutely amazed to see how many people were standing all along the roads, waving their hands or the norwegian flag ! Even the bridges were full of people waiting for the convoy and happy to salute us. My 2 companions have a special way to wave the guys on the bridge, quite fun ! Even one person gave them back their unusual sign hehe. Lucky me, I was for sure with the 2 funniest guys of the convoy.
Once arriving at the entrance of Stavanger, we all made an half turn and rode back to Klepp (I guess because we turned before, back home). It was such a nice experience, everything is really safe and there is 1 police motorbike at the beginning of the convoy and the rest of the “security” is made by bikers. I was quite surprised to see how many people were there to see us, motorbike seems to have a good reputation in Norway ! Now the season is open, can’t wait to ride more
